The election procedure

The Procedure at a Glance

  1. All subscribing members (Life Members only) to date are eligible to stand in the elections and vote. Annual members are only eligible to vote.
  2. Nominees to the Board must be proposed and then seconded by subscribing members of the IVS Alumni Association.
  3. Six members will be elected to the Board. In the first year of the new Board's term, elections must be held for 4 members whose terms will carry on to the new Board.
  4. Office bearers will subsequently be decided then amongst the Board itself.
  5. As stated by the Memorandum Article 38(ii), “Each member of each class shall have as many votes as there are vacancies on the Board. A member may cast all of his votes for one candidate or divide his vote among the candidates in such a manner as he deems fit.”
  6. Each subscribing member, in this case, will have six votes.
  7. Voting will be done by secret ballot.

Joining the Board Post-elections

The current strength of the Board is 6 members. 4 seats are available and open to nominations. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Board, or would like to nominate someone else:

  • Two members (other than yourself) of the Alumni must nominate a new member to the Board. Email Ramiz Baig at bog@ivsalumni.com with the name of your nominee.
  • Submit a short statement describing your commitment to the Association, and why you would be an asset to the Board.
  • Based on this statement, the existing Board will evaluate your potential as a Board member, and will accordingly send you either an invitation for the current Board, or an invitation to stand for the next scheduled elections for the Board of Governors.
