Our Vision

Re: has been established with the aim of creating definitive dialogue and a channel for constructive criticism and appraisal. Despite the establishment of schools and universities throughout Pakistan over the last decade (Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, HunerKada, the NCA Masters Program and more recently, the Visual Arts Departments at the Punjab University and at the Beaconhouse National University), development in creative fields is sporadic and vocational, rather than conceptual. As the push towards Information Technology and related fields becomes stronger, creative fields such as Advertising and Architecture fall rapidly into the flow, bypassing conceptual, creative, and thought-based ideas for the Pret-a-Porter version on their computers.

Re: aims to create a community of progressive thinkers and visionaries, through debate and reason, understanding and self-appraisal. The IVS Alumni journal, Re: will be the first publication of its kind in Pakistan , presenting ideas, discussions, and news within the industries of Design, Advertising, Architecture, Textiles and the Arts.

After an email consensus amongst the alumni, the journal was named Re: , chosen for its fluidity and flexibility. While Re: itself is an abbreviation of “in reference to”, or “regarding”, it will be attached to a second word that will define the concept and theme of each issue.

The theme for our first issue is Re:Act . Re:Act is a call for action, an analysis of where we, as artists, designers and architects, find ourselves — mentally, physically, professionally and personally.
